Do you want to spruce up your website content or blog, to make it more readable and attention grabbing? Perhaps English is your second language and you’d like to ensure your words sound authentic? Or are you producing a brochure, newsletter or in-house magazine and wish the text could sing?
Images and design can draw people in but well-written copy is what keeps a reader’s attention. Correct spelling and punctuation show you mean business, but just as crucial is that the words ‘speak’ to the reader by having a particular voice, evoking an image or feeling, and leaving a lasting impression.
I like to think of quality writing as painting pictures with words. Rosalind Gibb Media produces:
- sparkling, colourful writing for websites and printed materials such as newspaper advertorials/sponsored supplements, newsletters, brochures and magazines
- individual interviews and group oral histories, in book form or for exhibition materials
- engaging case studies and press releases
- expert editing and proofreading
- magazines and books — from sourcing material and photos, to designing and editing
I combine my natural talent for writing with an efficiency and diligence. My decade working as a journalist means I know how to get to the heart of a story and I understand what makes a piece of writing work, and what doesn’t.
My remit stretches far and wide but the common thread is that I care about what I do and the writing has heart. For me, that’s what gives the reader something to connect to. If you require copy for dry subjects such as annual financial reports, I suggest you look elsewhere!
Recent commissions I’ve completed include Remember a Charity, an advertising supplement published by The Scotsman; a quarterly magazine for Edinburgh charity the Living Memory Association; and a 25th anniversary publication for North Edinburgh Dementia Care.
I write press releases and text for brochures and newsletters; recent clients include Nestus UK, MatchPoint and LifeCare Edinburgh.I do proofreading, most recently for design company 442.
And I record oral histories, either in written form or as audio, most recently for Brewing Heritage Scotland, whose exhibition Raise Your Glass! was at the Museum of Edinburgh in 2016, and as part of Saughton Park Restoration Project. For the latter I also designed an exhibition using the oral histories – along with some wonderful photos – we have collected, which was displayed at three venues in Edinburgh over three months.
Have a look around this website – My Work has some examples of my feature writing, charity publications and so on, and I tend to write about new work projects on my blog.
I am based in Sheffield but work for clients across the UK. As I work freelance (no glitzy office overheads) and am located outside London, my rates are competitive. No matter where you are, I find an informal chat with potential clients works best, to establish what it is you are looking for, how I can help you, and to discuss fees. Please contact me using the form, phone 07708 799018 or email email@example.com. I look forward to hearing from you.
